My faithful friends:  here they are in all their furry glory ~

Hobie

Hobie

The Best Dog in the World. A Shepherd-Husky mix, this boy was adopted in California in 1998 as a juvenile delinquent and has proven to be more kind and sentient than many people I know. His job is to protect his family, and he has never taken a day off. If you open a bedroom or bathroom door to step out, you can bet he will be lying in front of it, facing outward to protect you from all enemies. His growl at a suspicious stranger would curl your toes, and yet he will patiently allow children to tug his tail and poke him in the eye without complaint. He can sort out a cat fight and usher “his” kitty home, and he can smell cookies baking from two miles away. I believe he is RT’s long-lost twin, and in the right light they even look alike.

Thaney

Thaney

Thaney is our resident obsessive-compulsive overachiever. Anyone out there have a Border Collie? *sigh* Then you know what I mean. Within days of her arrival in 2004, our shoes, socks, and miscellaneous small objects were all organized in neat rows . . . behind her bed. If she can’t help me do things around the house and yard, she indulges in her other hobby—deconstructing what we build. Fences, gardens, trees—all is fair game, and she is very good at the game. Thaney was originally adopted as Hobie’s dog, but I believe we all now belong to her. I dream of the day when I have lovely flocks of goats grazing on my land—and a Border Collie with a job.

Manny

Manny (the cat formerly known as Krishna)

RT believes Manny is in fact a Sith lord (and he the apprentice), but I think he’s just one darn lucky cat with a heaping helping of extra lives. Manny began his journey with me in a cardboard box found in a loading dock in 1994, and since then he has been smashed and put back together and cut and sewn up more times than I care to count. He is just too stubborn to give up, so I figure what’s money anyway? He is courageous, I’ll give him that. Manny is the Beocat of the property, with many fine mousie kills to his credit. He will even do an amazing catch-and-release hunt with me, graciously turning over his catch so I can relocate. Now, how many cats you know will do that?
